UfM Women4Mediterranean Conference 2018

Women build inclusive societies. Lisbon, Portugal. 10-11 October 2018 The 4th International UfM Women4Mediterranean Conference took place in Lisbon, Portugal with the slogan ‘’Women build inclusive societies’’’. In the conference where the representatives of academia and business world, non-governmental organizations and politics of Mediterranean cities participated, the current discussions and actuals of women in the Mediterranean were discussed under different forums. Burcu Tüm also shared her experiences and future projects in the conference, representing the program of SciencesPo: the ‘’Mediterranean Women of the Future’’.

Burcu Tüm was the one of the 22 participants in the programme ‘Femmes d’Avenir en Méditerranée’, organized by SciencesPo / Institut d’études politiques de Paris, in 2016, by means of her carrier in architecture.

Burcu Tüm realized a workshop titled ‘Hunting Guerillas Based on the Morphology’ at the’Urban Struggles in the Mediterranean Cities’ unconference in Athens from 31 May to 3 June 2018. The Methamorphose of Ayazma

L’ayazma est historiquement une source sanctuarisée, réputée pour ses propriétés thérapeutiques et bienfaisantes. C’est autour d’une de ces sources que s’est progressivement construit le quartier d’Ayazma, dans l’arrondissement de Küçükçekmece, en périphérie d’İstanbul. Contrairement à sa réputation originelle, ses eaux y sont devenues poison, conséquence d’un mode de développement urbain dénégateur. Son histoire est emblématique des bouleversements plus généraux qui ont affecté en quelques années la ville d’Istanbul, celle de l’altération irréversible d’un milieu et de ses ressources. Cette exposition photographique vous propose de replonger dans l’atmosphère de ce quartier et de mieux comprendre les enjeux qui s’y jouent à l’échelle locale comme dans tant d’autres franges urbaines. The opening of the ‘Woman with Woman Refugee Kitchen’, that we have been supporting with the project and conducting architectural design and construction site voluntarily with Aslı Tekin, has been realised. Kitchen that has been formed with the support of Okmeydanı Social Assistance and Solidarity Association in İstanbul is active by the common labor of Syrians and Turkish women neighbors who are living in the neighborhood.

Stone Seminar Series I

Burcu Tüm attended the first of the stone seminars organised by stonemason George Anastasiadis in 2022. The seminars demonstrated the practical and theoretical training of foundation and carving for stone masonry, stone carving for building, stone masonry construction for dry stone masonry, stone masonry with mortar, alignment of a wall with straight thread, use of stone hammer, trowel, trowel and angle, production of traditional lime mortar for stone masonry construction and articulation of stone masonry.
